Mueller Poised to Zero In on Trump-Russia Collusion Allegations

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is preparing to accelerate his probe into possible collusion between Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and Russians who sought to interfere in the 2016 election, according to a person familiar with the investigation. Mueller and his team of prosecutors and investigators have an eye toward producing conclusions — and possible indictments — related to collusion by fall, said the person, who asked not to be identified. He’ll be able to turn his full attention to the issue as he resolves other questions, including deciding soon whether to find that Trump sought to obstruct justice. Mueller’s office declined...

Sarah Sanders to receive Secret Service protection

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders is expected to receive Secret Service protection as soon as Wednesday, two sources familiar with the decision tell CNN, but they did not specify how long it will last. The Secret Service declined to comment, telling CNN: “For operational security purposes the Secret Service does not comment on its protective operations.” The news comes days after Sanders was asked to leave a small Lexington, Virginia, restaurant because of her role with the Trump administration, a move that has since sparked a national conversation on civility and public service in the age of Trump. Mitt Romney will be the face of Trump enablers or enemies. Or both

WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney is well on his way to becoming either the face of President Trump’s Republican collaborators or the face of his GOP critics. And maybe he’ll be both. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential nominee with an earned reputation for political flexibility, was poised Tuesday night to easily win his Senate primary in Utah. The ruby red state has sent only Republicans to the Senate for the last four decades. Barring the unforeseen, he’ll be a senator in January. Romney’s stature as the GOP’s 2012 nominee and his return to national leadership would intensify scrutiny...

Trump calls Maxine Waters “the face of the Democrats”

President Trump sought Tuesday to keep a spotlight on Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), a veteran lawmaker whose call for aggressive protests of administration officials prompted rebukes from members of both parties. In a morning tweet, Trump said that Waters is now “the face of the Democrats” and that she and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) make a “fine leadership team.” “They should always stay together and lead the Democrats, who want Open Borders and Unlimited Crime, well into the future….and pick Crooked Hillary for Pres,” Trump said, referencing the Democrat he defeated in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton....

Trump’s Immigration Rhetoric Roils Political Outlook for GOP

(Bloomberg) — Donald Trump’s family separation policy is continuing to create havoc for his administration, and ramped-up rhetoric from the president won’t help. The White House has struggled to display a unified response to a self-imposed crisis that appears likely to dominate the national agenda for a third straight week. Sunday offered a fresh signal that immigration would continue to overshadow other issues as Republicans gear up for a tough midterm election in November. Trump ratcheted up his demands on immigration, saying that people who “invade” the U.S. illegally should be deported immediately without trial or other normal judicial...
